On March 19, 1981, between the hours of 1:30 – 1:45 a.m., John Moxie was robbed and beaten in the parking lot of the Peek-A-Boo Lounge, on US Hwy 92, east of Lakeland. He sustained a skull fracture and died the next day. It is believed that one of the dancers at the lounge set the victim up for a robbery.
