On October 11, 1976, 50-year-old Paul Douglas Crum was fatally shot while driving his 1974 white and green Ford pick-up truck on US Highway 98, south at Banana Creek in Lakeland. He had just left the service station that he owned. A money bag was missing from his vehicle.
